時代別古備前名品図録/桂又三郎/限定2000部/定価28000円/備前焼の基礎資料として窯印を集め窯址を調べ陶工の墓を訪ね廃寺の骨壺を求めた

備前焼は巨大な河川のようなものだ。巾は広く、しかも深い。筆者は備前焼の研究を志してから約四十年、た だ一筋に生きてきたが、これでよいということはない。年になん回かは新らしい資料や珍らしい作品に接して、 備前焼にはこんなものもあるかと驚くこともたびたびあった。それだけ奥が深い。
筆者が備前焼の研究に志した動機は、かつて大正十年ごろから柳田国男先生に師事して民俗学をやっていた が、いまと違い、そのころは民俗学では一銭にもならず、しかも資料の採集が研究の大部分の仕事であったか ら、月々相当の経費も必要で、とうとう昭和十年ごろ刀折れ矢尽きたというような状態で民俗学から離れた。 はじめ柳田先生の紹介で、岡山県和気郡伊里村大字穂浪(現在 備前市穂浪)に在住して、万葉集総索引の大 事業に没頭していられた正宗敦夫先生(正宗白鳥の次弟、洋画家の正宗得三郎の兄)を知り、爾来正宗先生の知 遇を得ていたので、民俗学から離れて正宗先生のところへ約一ヵ年ほど寄寓していた。
正宗先生には甫一という一人息子がおり、その伸一氏と筆者とは齢が余り違わなかったので、いい遊び対手で あった。毎晩正宗先生を中心に、三人は古書を論じ書画を眺め、古美術、ことに備前焼を鑑賞して尽くるところ がなかった。
そうしたことから筆者もようやく備前焼に興味を覚え、穂浪から伊部まで約四キロの距離であったから、ときどき甫一氏と二人で窯址の調査に出かけ、主として窯印のある陶片を採集して記録していた。また、ときには近 傍の旧家や趣味家を訪ねては古備前などをみせてもらっていた。
こうしているうちに記録もたまり、興味もでたし、それにそのころ岡山では古備前蒐集が非常に流行していたので、岡山に帰り、はじめて備前焼の雑誌をだした。これがまたうまく当って、とうどうずるずると、こんにち まで約四十年食うてきた。いうなれば備前焼のお陰で四十年生活したわけであるから、備前焼には恩があるわけだ。
筆者が比較的短時日に備前焼の研究ができたことは、まったく民俗学の方法論を応用したお陰だと思っている。民俗学では少しでも多くの資料を比較するということが大きな柱になっている。そこで筆者は比較陶器学というひとつの新らしい研究方法を考え、またみずからも備前焼を知るためには、まず丹波焼を知らねばならぬ、 常滑も信楽も伊賀も知らねばならぬというわけで、東は志戸呂から、西は薩摩、対州まで窯址の調査にでかけ、 陶片を採集して、備前焼との類似点、相違点などを検討した。つまり備前焼研究は日本陶磁史を通じてみるべき だという考えだった。
一方また、備前焼の基礎資料として、窯印を集め、窯址を調べ陶工の墓を訪ね、廃寺の骨壺を求めて、一日と して休むことなく飛び廻った。こうして貪欲にまでひとつでも多くの資料をとかき集めた。
そして、あっという間に四十年は経過してしまった。浦島太郎ではないが、気がついたときには いつの間に か、人生の日暮れに達していたわけである。備前焼の歴史に比べれば、人の一生は一瞬の問題であろう。
こうして筆者が生涯を賭けた備前焼の研究をさらに推進してもらうため、後続の研究家にパトン タッチするに は、このへんで一応まとめておく必要があると、つねづね痛感していた。
さいわい今回、縁あって光美術工芸の南部圭三社長、同南部哲男副社長の理解に甘えて、かねての念願が実現 することとなった。その好意に深く感謝するとともに、また同社員富田泰夫氏や同田中昭夫氏の並々ならぬ努力 により、手ぎわよく編集して頂いたことを感謝する次第である。
なお三ヵ月に亘って撮影に努力された関伽井長治氏と菊池正氏にも、この欄をかりてお礼を述べたい。

Bizen ware is like a huge river. The width is wide and deep. The author has lived for about 40 years since he aspired to study Bizen ware, but this is not enough. Several times a year, I was exposed to new materials and rare works, and I was often surprised that Bizen ware had something like this. That's how deep it is.
The motivation for the author to study Bizen ware was that he had been studying folklore under Professor Kunio Yanagita since around 1918, but unlike now, folklore was not worth a penny at that time. Since collecting materials was most of the work of research, it cost a considerable amount of money every month, and finally I left folklore in a state where my sword was broken around 1945. At first, Mr. Yanagida introduced me to Mr. Atsuo Masamune (the second younger brother of Masamune Shiratori) who lived in Honami, Iri-mura, Wake-gun, Okayama Prefecture (currently Honami, Bizen City) and was devoted to the big business of the Manyoshu Sogo Index. , The brother of the Western-style painter Masamune Tokusaburo), and was treated by Professor Masamune Atsuo, so he left folklore and stayed with Professor Masamune for about a year.
Mr. Masamune had only one son, Shinichi, and Shinichi and the author were not so different in age, so it was a good play. Every night, led by Professor Masamune, the three of them discussed old books, looked at the paintings, and enjoyed antique art, especially Bizen ware.
I also remember the interest finally to Bizen from such things, Ibe because was a distance of about 40 kilometers from the from Honami,when,went to the kiln sites of investigation in earthenware Hajime Hajime and two people mainly pottery pieces with a kiln mark It was collected and recorded. In addition, I sometimes visited old houses and hobbyists nearby to see Kobizen.
While I was doing this, I got a lot of records and became interested in it. At that time, the collection of old Bizenwas very popular inwareOkayama, so I returned to Okayama and published the Bizen ware magazine for the first time. This hit again, and when I sneaked, I've been eating for about 40 years until today. In other words, thanks to Bizen ware, I lived for 40 years, so Bizen ware is beneficial

That the author has been relatively Tanjijitsu to be the study of Bizen is,I believe that thanks to all the application of the methodology ofthatfolklore.Comparing as many materials as possible is a major pillar of folklore. So Ithinkcalledcomparison potterystudies,the research methods seems one of the new also in order to know the Bizen also own, the unexpected must first know the Tamba baked, not that unexpected must know Iga also Shigaraki also Tokoname, From Shitoro in the east to Satsuma in the west and Tokoname in the west, we went to investigate the pottery ruins, collected pottery pieces, and examined similarities and differences with Bizen ware. In other words, the idea was that Bizen ware research should be viewed throughout the history of Japanese ceramics.
On the other hand, as basic materials for Bizen ware, he collected kiln stamps, examined the kiln ruins, visited the tomb of a potter, and sought the urn of an abandoned temple, and flew around without rest throughout the day. In this way, I greedily collected as many materials as possible.
And forty years have passed in no time. I'm not Urashima Taro, but when I realized it, I had reached the nightfall of my life. Compared to the history of Bizen ware, a person's life is a momentary problem.
In order for the author to further promote the research on Bizen ware, which I bet on my life, I was always keenly aware that it was necessary to put together this in order to put a pattern on subsequent researchers.
Fortunately, this time, with the understanding of Keizo Minami, President of Optical Arts and Crafts, and Tetsuo Minami, Vice President of Kogei Kogei, the long-cherished desire has come true.
